Women’s Lives featured in Museum film studies course

VERO BEACH — Issues faced by women from childhood through old age will be examined in a new film studies course at the Vero Beach Museum of Art titled Trends in International Cinema: Feminine Mystiques. Classes are held on Tuesdays beginning Nov. 10, and will continue through Dec. 7. Students may sign-up for either the afternoon session at 1:30 p.m. or the evening session at 7 p.m. as part of the five-week film studies offering.

Included in the course will be movies from Romania, South Korea, Spain, and the U.K.  In recent years, both South Korea and Romania have earned reputations as two of the world’s hottest film-producing countries, according to Obluck. Movies to be shown are Treeless Mountain (South Korea, 2008), The Way I Spent the End of the World (Romania, 2005), Happy-Go-Lucky (United Kingdom, 2008), Housewife, 49 (United Kingdom, 2006), and Elsa and Fred (Spain, 2005).

Classes are offered in the Museum’s state-of-the-art Leonhardt Auditorium with its 20 x 30 foot big screen and surround-sound audio.  The films are put into context by the Museum’s film studies coordinator Warren Obluck, who also moderates an optional film discussion after each screening.

Tuition for the five-week course is $55 ($45 for Museum members). Register at the Museum or by phone. To register by phone, call Education Assistant Angela Fallon at (772) 231-0707 ext. 136.
