Edward J. Meltz, 85, of Vero Beach, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.Mr. Meltz was born December 17, 1923 in Yonkers, N.Y. and moved to Vero Beach in 1989 from his birthplace. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and retired as Detective for the Westchester County Police Department in New York and the United States Customs Department.He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.Survivors include his sons Thomas Meltz of Saugerties, N.Y., Richard Meltz of Kent Lakes, N.Y. and Edward Meltz of New Fairfield, Conn.; sister Maryanne Fitzgerald of Yonkers, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Doris in 1999. No services are planned at this time.Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
