VERO BEACH — Senior wide receiver Will Peckham scored two touchdowns as part of a 4-TD performance by quarterback Collier Proctor to lead the St. Edward’s Pirates to a 35-6 homecoming triumph over the Lighthouse Crusaders.
Proctor collected rushing TDs of 13- and 4-yards, and passing TDs of 7 yards (to senior running Cameron Budde) and 24 yards. Peckham was the recipient of the 24-yard pass from Proctor in the second quarter and he scored again in the third quarter on a 5-yard run. “Collier has as good of an arm as anyone around here,” said St. Edward’s Coach Brad Fojtik. “Our running backs and offensive line have been banged up the last few weeks, so I needed him to makes some plays on his own tonight. He delivered like a senior tonight.”
The win moves St. Edward’s 4-4 on the year, no small feat considering their rash of injuries. For his part, Fojtik was happy his seniors could pick up a win on homecoming.
“We have so many seniors on this team, and they’ve all worked so hard,” he said. “To get a win here in front of the home crowd tonight was special for all of us, but especially for those seniors.”
The Pirates came up big on defense, holding Lighthouse to only 157 total yards and collecting 5 interceptions. Senior defensive end Michael Lamos, St. Edward’s leading tackler, had a dynamic interception in the third to highlight the team’s standout defensive performance.
As a coach who’s had around 20 players to work with on most weeks, Fojtik applauded the effort from the visiting team. “I give Lighthouse a lot of credit tonight,” said Fojtik. “They only brought 14 players with them tonight, and they gave it their best.”
St. Edward’s plays host to Trinity Christian next week at home, which is coming off a 49-0 drubbing from Florida Air Academy this week.
