INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Dozens of county water customers are still under a boil water advisory after a water main broke Thursday. Water was shut off to nearly 130 customers for more than an hour Thursday afternoon so crews could repair the water main, officials said.
The break affected customers on 11th Place, 12th Street, 12th Avenue, 13th Avenue, 14th Avenue, 15th Avenue, and 16th Avenue. What caused the break was not immediately known.
The water department reminds the affected customers to bring their water a rolling boil for one minute before using it to drink, cook, make rice, brush their teeth or wash dishes. As an alternative to boiling, customers can use bottled water.
The department will send out an alert once they decide the water is safe without boiling. Officials will monitor the bacteriological levels in the water, a process that could take two days of lab testing.
