Dorethea Hopkins McGriff, 79, Vero Beach

Dorethea Hopkins McGriff, 79, of Vero Beach, died Tuesday Oct. 13, 2009 at Consulate Healthcare.

She was born on November 23, 1929 in Daytona Beach and has been a resident of Indian River County since 1950.

She was a member of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Youth Director, Senior Choir, Missionary Society, Mother’s Board, Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher and Director of Baptist Training Union. Survivors include her husband, Eddie McGriff, of Vero Beach, FL; stepson, Donald Phillips, of Vero Beach; brother, Charles Hopkins, of Miami; sisters, Mattie Martin, of Fort Pierce; Annie Leonard, Marie Wilcox, and Alyse Snell, all of Vero Beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sammie and Mattie Williams Hopkins, brothers, Willie G. Hopkins, Ulysee Samuel, Redrick Williams and a sister, Geneva Tory.

Visitation will be held from  4 to 7 p.m. on Friday Oct. 16, 2009 at Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel, Gifford.  A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday Oct. 17, 2009 at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Gifford.
