Robert Gilbert Mize, Jr., 74 of Sebastian died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at his residence. He was born May 30, 1935 in Memphis and was a resident of Sebastian for 18 years, coming from Merritt Island. Mize graduated from Ouachita Baptist College (Arkansas) in 1960. Was in the ROTC Program and went on active duty with the U.S. Army until 1977 when he retired. He served with the Army Security Agency, Defense Nuclear Agency, and Military Intelligence. He was stationed in Turkey, Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW and was an ordained Baptist minister. Working on boats, cars and fishing were his passions. Survivors include his wife of 39 1/2 years Karen R. Mize of Sebastian, FL; daughter Tracey Davis of Somerville, TN; son Robert W. Mize of Memphis, TN; sisters Claudia Runkin of Hernando, MS, Betty Mize of Memphis, TN and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Donna Mize. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
