VERO BEACH — The mother of a 5-month-old infant who died in the back of her SUV while she worked all day has filed a not guilty plea in court.
“There’s no resolution that’s been reached,” said her attorney, Andrew Metcalf, who added that the filing only preserves Stephanie Ann Salvilla-Werking’s right to go to trial and does not mean that she wants the case to go to trial.
Metcalf said that he could not comment on whether or not there might be a plea deal in the works with the State Attorney’s Office.
Salvilla-Werking, of Sebastian, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter after her son, 5-month-old Gannon, was left in a child’s safety car seat in the back of her SUV when she went to work in Vero Beach in late July.
“It’s a tragedy,” her attorney said. Adding that she is reminded everyday as there are photos of Gannon around the house.
Metcalf said that she and her family are coping as best as could be expected and they have a large support group.
