SEBASTIAN – Centennial quarterback Cody Bragg hit Mike Nesmith with a 55-yard touchdown pass to seal the victory over Sebastian late in the fourth quarter. Bragg ended the game with 133 yards on 6/13 passing.
Cortez Ash put the Pirates in the lead, when he dashed 50 yards after taking the snap from center. An extra point made the score 7-3. Bragg hit Nesmith for the game-winning score with 2:20 left in the game, in what was a disappointing loss for the Sharks.
“Centennial came in with a good game plan and they executed,” said SRHS Coach Randy Bethel. “They wanted it more than we did, and it wasn’t our best effort.”
Sharks running back Fred Macon led the charge on offense, picking up 83 yards rushing. With bye week last week, SRHS looked rusty on offense and didn’t execute up to their normal standard.
Centennial improves to 1-1 with the win, and Sebastian drops to a disappointing 0-2.
The Sharks travel to Okeechobee and will surely right the ship on that trip. Okeechobee (0-3) has been outscored by opponents 14-96 this year, and barring catastrophe, the Sharks will take care of business next Friday.
