Connecticut man drowns while swimming off Sexton Plaza

VERO BEACH — A Connecticut man died while swimming near the Breconshire wreck off Sexton Plaza in Vero Beach Monday, authorities said.

The man, identified as Sergio Cipriano, 45, of Danberry, Conn., went into the Atlantic Ocean shortly before 4 p.m., according to what his friends told the Vero Beach Police Department. Shortly thereafter, his friends saw him swimming near the wreck’s buoy 450 feet from shore and then noticed he was floating motionless in the water. One of the man’s friends swam out to him while others called for help. His friend brought him back to shore where a witness performed CPR.

Cipriano was taken to Indian River Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 p.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

Police: Man dies after tree falls, traps him underneath

SEBASTIAN — A 74-year-old Sebastian man died Thursday while cutting a pine tree when the tree's trunk fell on top of him, police said. Sebastian police Cpt. Tim Wood identified the man as Bradford Kay. Wood said Kay's family has been notified of the fatal incident. Wood said Kay and a neighbor were using a chainsaw to cut a pine tree about 3 p.m. at Kay's home on Blue Island Street, north of Sebastian Boulevard. The two were in the backyard. Motorcyclist hurt after hit-and-run crash

VERO BEACH — Police are searching for a black sports utility vehicle they said drove from a hit-and-run crash that injured a motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce as a precaution, police said. The motorcycle driver, who had non-life threatening injuries, was released from the hospital late Saturday, Vero Beach police spokesman Master Officer Darrell Rivers said.
