VERO BEACH – Tails will wag and pooches will give smooches on Wednesday, Aug. 26, as the Vero Beach Hotel & Spa and the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County team up to celebrate National Dog Day with a doggie adoption party.
Oliver, a 3-year-old Lhasa Apso and director of pet relations at the hotel, along with family and friends, will host the first dog adoption drive in the hotel lobby during the evening wine hour from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Three shelter dogs will join Oliver, hotel guests, and the local community at this special “Dog Day” party to mingle and play over a refreshing bowl of water or glass of wine, while learning about pet adoption and care, as well as, volunteering opportunities from the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the animals of Indian River County.Once an orphan at a Miami animal shelter until adopted by Vero Beach Hotel & Spa’s general manager Marco Scherer, Oliver wants to help dogs less fortunate by offering them an opportunity to meet caring families and find loving homes like he has found at the 113-room hotel.”Oliver is an example of what a blessing pet adoption is, not only for the animals in need, but for families who make them part of their homes,” says Scherer, general manager. “Oliver has been such a joy to have as part of our team and we want to take this opportunity to educate others about pet adoption and the Humane Society.”
As part of its new pet-friendly initiative, Vero Beach Hotel & Spa appointed Oliver its first director of pet relations. The boutique hotel warmly welcomes pets of all shapes and sizes without any additional fees or deposits. In his role, Oliver reports to the general manager, lays-in on executive meetings and oversees the hotel’s pet perks program, including the development of amenities, promotions and packages for four-legged travelers. To contact Oliver, guests can e-mail him at [email protected].
