JoAnn Studer, 74, Vero Beach

JoAnn Studer, 74, of Vero Beach, FL died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Studer was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Piqua, Ohio, and moved to Vero Beach over 50 years ago from Ohio.

She had been a Registered Nurse and worked at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Indian River Medical Center prior to retiring. She was of the Catholic Faith. Survivors include her sons, Patrick Studer, John Studer, and Christopher Studer, all of Vero Beach; a sister, Betty Jackson, of Ohio; and three grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. Man shot after charging at deputy with small sword

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 29-year-old man who was shot by a deputy after charging at the officer with a small sword, was hospitalized late Friday, officials said. The unidentified man was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The deputy who fired the shot was not injured. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol for police-involved shootings.
