VERO BEACH — The event was billed as a celebrations of “Peace, Love and Books” and that’s exactly what it was. About 150 people enjoyed storytelling, a band playing 1960s music, “groovy” crafts and a replica of a Volkswagen bus for picture-taking.Vero Beach Book Center Publicist Cynthia Grabenbauer said this is not one of the Children’s Store’s annual events, but that it arose out of the very popular Lunar Landing Party the store held last month. It was designed to bring past and present flower children together to celebrate”We had such fun with the Lunar Landing, the history that we have grown up with, we sharing with the kids,” she said. “It’s a wonderful thing for the children to come and enjoy the music, the crafts and the face painting and the multi-age part of it.”Families were encouraged to dress in the 1960s theme and a few did show up in a panorama of tie-die and other retro gear, which ironically is back in style. The Book Center staff got into the act as well, with Miss Julie telling stories and special guest Miss Dawn playing Bob Dylan music on the guitar and joining in with the Mercury Band, a local group that enjoys music from the Woodstock.Though no purchase was necessary to attend the event, the store feature books about the history, culture and politics of the Woodstock era and a sizeable music selection. The Vero Beach Book Center Children’s Store has special themed events and holiday for kids throughout the year.
