Robert Paul Mercier, 80, of Vero Beach, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Mercier was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Springfield, Mass., and moved to Vero Beach 12 years ago from Glastonbury, Conn.
He served in the United States Coast Guard. Prior to retirement he had been a Data Processing Manager for the State of Connecticut for 30 years. Mr. Mercier was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. He was a member of Saint Helen Catholic Church and an usher. He was a member of the American Legion and a former member of Dodger Pines Golf Club He was currently the president of the State of Connecticut Employee’s Retirement Chapter 407. He was a member of the Irish American Home Society in Glastonbury, Conn. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Helen; son, Michael Paul Mercier, of Middleburg, Fla.; daughter, Maureen Mercier, Childree of Vernon, Conn.; sister, Marion Loughman, of Longmeadow, Mass.; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Daniel Robert Mercier.
A Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 15, at St. Helen Catholic Church followed by Military Honors given by the VFW Post 3918.
