Hope A. Lanigan, 87, Vero Beach

Hope A. Lanigan, 87, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at VNA Hospice House. She was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Providence, R.I., and had been a resident for 20 years, coming from her birthplace.

Ms. Lanigan was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. Survivors include her niece, Charlene (Dr. Henry) Laurelli, of North Kingstown, R.I.; grandniece, Rebecca Monti of Cranston, R.I.; great-grandnieces; and a great-grandnephew. She is predeceased by her brothers, James, Charles, John and Eugene.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Rhode Island. Donations may be made to VNA Hospice House of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
