VERO BEACH — Storm Grove Middle School will be hosting Open Houses and Camp Stingray in August for the public and incoming students and parents. There will be an Open House on both Wednesday, Aug. 5 and Thursday, Aug. 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., during which time the general public may tour the new campus, located at 6400 57th Street, Vero Beach. Camp Stingray is being offered to all incoming students and parents, so that they can get acclimated to the new school. One and a half hour sessions for students and separate sessions for parents will run on Aug. 10 and 11 for sixth graders and on Aug. 12 and 13 for seventh and eighth graders. Specific times are outlined on the school’s Web site at www.indianriverschools.org/SGMS.”These summer events are designed to get our students and parents ready for the new school year,” said Principal Mr. Shawn O’Keefe. “And the open houses allow our community to get a sneak peek at Storm Grove and share in our excitement about Indian River County’s first green school.”Information on the summer band camp, to be held Aug. 3 through 7, can also be found on the Web site. The band is under the direction of Mr. Sean Srigley.The summer reading list for students is also posted.Storm Grove Middle School is Indian River County’s first “green” school. With an emphasis on environmental science, the school has developed four “big founding ideas,” compiled by an active community advisory committee which was formed in August 2008.
