Richard ‘Dick’ O. Herman, 82, Vero Beach

Richard “Dick” O. Herman, 82, died July 21, 2009. He was born in Massillon, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach since 1961.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and in the Army during the Korean War. Before retirement, he was employed by Piper Aircraft Corp. for 30 years. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church and the Nocturnal Adoration Society, and served as an usher. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Herman; sons, Michael, Mark and Joel Herman, all of Vero Beach; brother, James Herman of Leesburg; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert Herman; and sister, Judy Ann Farrell.
