Elvester B. Mowatt, 101, of Gulfport and Wabasso, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Boca Ciega Center, in Gulfport. She was born on Sept. 23, 1907, in Caryville, Fla. She was a resident of Wabasso. Elvester attended and graduated from Bethune-Cookman University receiving her degree in elementary education. She was a retired educator in the education administrative business. She was principal at Fellsmere Elementary for 36 years. She was a long time member of Allen Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church, Wabasso.Survivors include sisters-in-laws, Lydia Broxton, and Larcenia Broxton; nieces, Minnie McCrary, Carolyn Peppers, Arnethia Okelo, Mary Dabner, Patricia Wright, Emily Broxton, and Barbara Coleman; nephews, Lonel Broxton, Barry Broxton, Donald Broxton, John Broxton, Herman Broxton, Kirk Broxton, Edward Wright, Robert Wright and Alphonse Wright; and a host of great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her sisters, Trassel Wright and Bernice Johnson; brothers, Herman, Vanchester, Stanley and John Broxton; and her ex-husband, Gerald Mowatt.Visitation will be held at noon and a funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Allen Chapel A.M.E.
