Indian River County

Indian River County is a county located in the U.S. State of Florida. As of 2000, the population was 112,947. The U.S. Census Bureau 2005 estimate for the county is 128,594. The county seat is Vero Beach. Indian River County was created in 1925. It was named for the Indian River Lagoon, which runs through the eastern portion of the county. Previously this area was considered part of St. Lucie County.

The Board of County Commissioners consists of five members who are elected countywide. Each commissioner represents an individual district, in which the member must live as of the day the commissioner is sworn in for service.
