Fellsmere 14-year-old crashes truck after ‘joyride’

FELLSMERE — A Fellsmere 14-year-old took his parents truck for a “joyride” and ended up in a ditch, according to Fellsmere Police.

Sgt. Scott Newsom suggests to keep your keys in a secure place, not necessarily in a lock box, but away from children.

“Don’t just throw them on the table when you get home,” said Sgt. Newsom.

The boy took the truck without his parents’ permission, according to authorities. No one was injured, but the truck did end up in a ditch and had to be towed from the area of 89th Street and S. Bay Street.

He was cited for driving without a license, a misdemeanor offence, according to police. Both he and the passenger were released to family members.
