Hearts, Flowers, and a Fish: a program of German art songs
June 10 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pmfree; donations accepted
On Sunday, June 10, at 4 p.m., St. John of the Cross Catholic Church presents Hearts, Flowers, and a Fish: a program of German art songs. The performance will be held in the church sanctuary at 7590 26th Street in Vero Beach. This event is free to the community; donations will be accepted.
The program will consist primarily of German lieder, or art songs, and features works by Mozart, Brahms, Strauss, Beethoven and others. The chosen repertoire represents the expression of heartfelt emotion (the heart), the appreciation of beauty (the flowers), and communing with nature (the fish).
Sandra McNiff, soprano, will be joined on several pieces by guest vocalists Kerry Newell, Vyki Sabo, Dan Kroger, and Gary Parr.
Hailing from Massachusetts, McNiff has recently performed recitals of arts songs and operatic arias in Fort Pierce and Palm City. As an oratorio singer, she was the soprano soloist for the gala performance of the Verdi Requiem at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie in 2015. In addition, she has been a cantor and guest soloist for several area churches and choral organizations.
The Fine Arts Series at St. John of the Cross provides opportunities for the community to hear local, regional, and national musicians. Beginning with the 2018-2019 season, this series will feature not only musical guests but also guest speakers and religious-based works of art in the new Fellowship Hall.
