9th Annual Pioneer Day

February 8, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free

Plan now to attend the 9th Annual Pioneer Day on Saturday, February 8, 10 am to 4 pm. This yearly event is held at both Sams House/Pine Island Conservation Area and at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in north Merritt Island.

Celebrating the early settlers of Merritt Island at these two historic sites will take you back in time through art, music, food, presentations, archaeology, and nature.

This year we are also celebrating the 30th anniversary of Brevard County’s Environmentally Endangered Lands Program, and the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote.

Don’t miss the “suffragists” in the 11 am Pioneer Parade at Sams House/Pine Island, and a Sams family descendant portraying her suffragist ancestor in the St. Luke’s Cemetery Stroll.

In addition, the League of Women Voters will be at Sams House with a voter registration table. Family-friendly activities and events include Florida living history demonstrations, educational exhibits, speakers, guided historic cemetery tours, a cemetery stroll where actors in period attire talk about life in their day, live music, crafts fair and farmer’s market vendors, guided trail hikes, live raptors from the Florida Wildlife Hospital, children’s crafts and games, a petting farm, food trucks, kettle corn and St. Luke’s famous homemade soups. Free shuttle buses ferry attendees between the two sites which are a mile apart.

Most of the parking is at St. Luke’s. A parking donation of $2 is suggested. For more information, call Sams House at (321) 449-4720.
