Literacy Services Update

Farewell, Jessica!

The Board of Directors of Literacy Services of Indian River County announces that Executive Director, Jessica Schmitt, has accepted a position with the United Way of Indian River County as Director of Philanthropy. Jessica served as Executive Director for nearly five years. Under her leadership, she led the organization through Board expansion, multi-year strategic planning and increased awareness in the community, culminating in a commemoration event of its 50th Anniversary.

Jessica states that it has been an honor to serve as the Executive Director and work
alongside the staff and Board of Directors towards Literacy Services’ mission. “I have
learned a great deal and am proud of all we have accomplished.” She believes the
organization is poised for growth due to the dedication of the Board, talented staff and
volunteers.

“On behalf of the Board, I express gratitude to Jessica for sharing her multiple talents
and dedication with us,” stated Board President Kent Jones. “Her exceptional leadership
has strengthened Literacy Services in all respects.” The Board has assembled a
transition committee to oversee the search for a new Executive Director. An invitation to
apply for the position will be posted on Indeed shortly.

The Board is grateful to you for your generous and continuing support as we build on the foundation established under Jessica’s leadership.
