Boil-water notice issued after water main break near Acacia Road

VERO BEACH — Residents living near Acacia Road and State Road A1A were placed under a 72-hour boil water notice after a water main break Thursday, police said. Residents under the notice were notified by the city, officials said.

“If you received a red tag from the city that means you’re under a boil water notice,” Vero Beach police spokesperson Master Officer Darrell Rivers said. “The tags would have been placed on their doors.”

The addresses affected include 25 homes on Acacia Road, two homes on Beachland Boulevard, two homes on Ocean Drive and one home on A1A, according to the City of Vero Beach.

“Notices have been delivered to these addresses, and bacteriological samples have been collected,” city officials said in a statement.

The water main break occurred about 3 p.m. at a construction site at Acacia Road and A1A. The leak sent water gushing down the roadway.

Acacia Road was already closed for construction. There were no reports of any property damaged from the water main break, Rivers said.

The leak was repaired within four hours, Rivers said.
