House fire near Old Dixie Highway extinguished

Update: A fully engulfed house fire that ignited over the weekend has been extinguished, Indian River County sheriff’s officials said in a Monday update. It was unclear if any injuries were reported.

The fire sparked shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday at the residence near Old Dixie Highway, west of U.S. 1, officials said. Deputies closed Old Dixie Highway between Oslo Road and 10th Street Southwest for an unspecified amount of time.

Details on how long it took firefighters to knock down the blaze were not available. It was unclear if the home was considered uninhabitable from fire damage.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Firefighters worked to extinguish a fully engulfed house fire that closed Old Dixie Highway late Sunday, sheriff’s officials said. It was unclear if any injuries were reported.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies and fire rescue crews were at the residence shortly before 11 p.m. near Old Dixie Highway, west of U.S. 1, officials said. Deputies closed Old Dixie Highway between Oslo Road and 10th Street Southwest.

“Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

Details on the cause of the blaze were not available. Indian River County Fire Rescue crews were not immediately available for comment.
