Coming Up! Food, fun on menu at Sebastian’s ‘Grill Out Night’

The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce is helping you plan for some “Sweet & Sunny Citrus” fun this weekend by sponsoring “Grill Out Night” on Friday evening. This is a community-wide open event designed to introduce you to local businesses while serving up food and fun. There will be sales, discounts and door prizes as well. Grill Out Night runs 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 throughout the Sebastian business area. The best way to participate is to visit the Pelican Porch Visitors Center, at the southeast corner of Main Street and U.S. 1 in Sebastian. There, you can pick up a map of participating businesses opening their doors to visitors. For more information, visit SebastianChamber.com.

The Vero Beach Museum of Art is also setting the stage for unusual fun with its “Little Things Party.” The event, which runs Saturday evening, includes gallery activities like “close-looking,” create tiny art and play big games. Organizers recommend registering for the program by calling 772-231-0707, ext. 136, or emailing egiordano@VeroBeachMuseum.org. You can also go to the museum’s website, VBMuseum.org, and register. Fee is $8 general and free for museum members and children 17 years and younger. The Little Things Party runs 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, 3001 Riverside Park Dr. And while there, don’t forget about the two exhibitions currently on view: “Simple Pleasures: The Art of Doris Lee,” which runs through Sept. 18; and “Masters in Black and White,” which runs through Sept. 11. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. The last admission is 15 minutes before closing. Admission to the galleries during regular business hours is $8 general, $7 seniors and free for children younger than 17 years.

The First Presbyterian Church’s Youth String Orchestra will present a Folk & Americana Concert 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, in the church’s sanctuary. The award-winning youth orchestra recently performed in the Florida Keys, where they participated in a service project to help the Crane Point Nature Reserve. While in South Florida, the Youth String Orchestra accompanied by the Youth Choir and Youth Winds & Percussion ensembles performed at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Miami and the Sanctuary Church in Fort Lauderdale. The concert will be led by Dr. Jacob Craig, the church’s music director, and will include American folk standards such as “The Entertainer,” “Maple Leaf Rag,” “Orange Blossom Special” and more. For sure the concert is designed to get your feet tapping and hands clapping. The concert is free, but a $10 donation is suggested. More music will fill the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach when the Vero Beach Choral Society begins rehearsals next month. The group is currently looking for vocalists to join. The group already has concerts scheduled for December and April. It will begin rehearsals 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12. Artistic director Dr. Jacob Craig has scheduled a performance of “Gloria” on Dec. 13 and Dec. 14. Auditions consists of singers singing a chromatic scale up and down a-capella.
