Richard Denson Bartlett, 86, Vero Beach

February 26, 1936 – May 25, 2022

Richard Denson Bartlett, age 86, a lifelong resident of Vero Beach, passed away May 25, 2022, at VNA Hospice House.

A graduate of Vero Beach High School, Class of 1954, Richard served in the United States Navy.

He was a member of First Methodist Church and the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class.

For 32 years, Richard worked with Southern Bell Telephone Company.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Bartlett; two daughters, Jennifer (Jason) Keeler and Stephanie (Brian) Brinson; his grandchildren, Mollie & Connor Keeler and Emma, Ryan, & Logan Brinson; and his sister, Ann Donald.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Robert G. Bartlett and Lunelle E. Bartlett.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2022 at First Methodist Church, Vero Beach.

Mary Judith Schroeder, 80

May 21, 1942 – May 22, 2022

Mary Judith Schroeder, known as “Judie” to her friends and family, passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 22, 2022.

Judie was born to the late George & Ruth Adams on May 21, 1942, in Binghamton, N.Y. Judie lived most of her childhood and all of her teenage years in Fellsmere, FL. In 1958, she was named Miss Okolana Sugar of Fellsmere, FL.  After graduating from Fellsmere high school, she married her husband of 61 years, Albert, who had predeceased her in death.

Judie is survived by her sons, Stephen Schroeder and Frederick Schroeder and his wife, Mary Schroeder, grandchildren, Stephany Schroeder, Carissa Schroeder & Ryan Schroeder.

Judie was co-owner & operator of Schroeder Irrigation of Vero Beach, which she and Albert operated successfully for 44 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, brother-in-law & her sister-in-law and spending quality time with her family. She is remembered as a kindhearted person with a welcoming smile and open arms.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to H.A.L.O. Animal No-Kill Shelter, Sebastian or to the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County.

Beulah “Bea” Smith Beach, 96

May 17, 1926 – May 16, 2022

Beulah “Bea” Smith Beach died at home on May 16, 2022 with her daughter, Brenda, and granddaughter, Donna, at her side.

Bea was born in Lenoir, NC to Albert Smith and Ethel Benge Smith on May 17, 1926.  She had made Florida her home since the early 1950’s.

After retiring from a nursing career, she took up golf and became  a very avid and competitive golfer.

Bea was a proud member of the American Legion Post 39 Women’s Auxiliary.

She is pre-deceased by two sons, Gerald and Jerry Beach and a daughter, Margaret Begel.  She is survived by daughter, Brenda Sheriff and son, Jeffrey Beach.

Following Bea’s wishes, there are to be no formal services. She is interred at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach, FL.

Roslyn Johnson Showalter, 85, a Vero Beach, FL resident, formerly of Miami, FL, passed away May 19, 2022, in Vero Beach, FL. Roslyn was born on August 28, 1936, in Miami, FL.

She reunites with her parents: Benjamin and Dorothy Johnson; husband: Forrest P. Showalter; daughters: Kimberly Della Showalter-Ayerdis and Karen Rebecca Showalter; grandson: Korrington Tyler Showalter; brothers: Robert Johnson, wife Liz and Victor Johnson, wife Gloria.

Roslyn is survived by her daughter: Kerrie Showalter Hlavaty, husband Doug; grandchildren: Alex Ayerdis, Adam Ayerdis, Krystal Braswell, husband Scott and Douglas Hlavaty, Jr.; great-grandchildren: Hayden Grace, Grayson Scott and Brooklyn Rose.

Visitation will be held from 11AM-1PM Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach, FL .

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach.

Robert Sabatini, 94, Vero Beach

April 12, 1928 – May 19, 2022

Robert Sabatini, 94, of Vero Beach, FL passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at his home.

Bob was born in The Bronx, New York and moved to Vero Beach following his retirement in 1992. He was a proud Army veteran who served as a First Lieutenant in the Signal Corps during the Korean War. He graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and spent most of his career as Chief Engineer with Teledyne Hydra-Power Corporation in New Rochelle, New York. During his retirement in Vero Beach, Bob was an avid golfer who achieved three lifetime hole-in-ones, and also volunteered at Riverside Theatre, served on the board at Post Chapel of the Indian River-Cleveland Clinic, and enjoyed regular workouts at the gym.

Survivors include his wife Carol Sabatini of Vero Beach, sons Robert (Tommie Jean) Sabatini of Richmond, Virginia and Mark (Angela) Sabatini of Morganville, New Jersey, grandchildren Andrew and Lauren Sabatini, Renee Wilson, Mark Sabatini, and Stephen Sabatini, and great grandson Cayden Wilson.

He was preceded in death by a son Stephen Sabatini.

W. Edwin Fehrs, Jr., 93, Vero Beach

August 30, 1928 – April 21, 2022

W. Edwin Fehrs, Jr., died on April 21, 2022 in Vero Beach, Florida at the age of 93 years. Known as Ed, he was born in Stamford, Connecticut on August 30, 1928 to Ann (Danko) Fehrs and W. Edwin Fehrs, Sr. He grew up in Port Chester, N.Y. and joined the Navy right after high school at the end of World War II. He attended Tufts University where he met Jane Jackman from East Corinth, Vermont, who he married after graduation in 1951. He went to work for IBM in Vermont which led to a long career in marketing with IBM and IBM World Trade, including positions in the Washington D.C. and New York metropolitan areas. In 1960, he and Jane settled in Armonk, N.Y., where they raised their family and lived for almost 5 decades. In 2008, they moved to Vero Beach, Florida.

An Eagle Scout, Ed loved the Boy Scouts and served as a Troop and District Leader. He also served as a member of the Lay School Board, St. Patrick’s Church, Bedford, N.Y., on the non-profit YMCA Camp Billings Board of Directors, and as a member and president of the Byram Hills Board of Education in Armonk. He was a director and vice president of the Bedford Audubon Society. In Florida, he served on the Indian River Estates Hospitality Committee, Residents Board, and Dementia Care Committee. His hobbies included birding, tennis, and skiing; other interests included the Wolf Conservation Center in N.Y., Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Vero Beach, sports–especially Duke basketball, World War II history, historical biographies, and enjoying his grandchildren.

He is survived by his four children–Laura Jane Fehrs, M.D., Decatur, GA, Jeffrey Edwin Fehrs, Williston, VT, Thomas Lawrence Fehrs, Portland, ME, and Seth Jackman Fehrs, Durham, NC, their partners, and his eight grandchildren—Maya, Johanna, Eliza, Bridget, Jillian, and Nathan Fehrs and Ethan and Anna Magnes. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Jane in 2014, his beloved second wife, Joy Groves who he married in 2015, and his brother Richard H. Fehrs.

The family thanks the wonderful staff of Attentive Premier Caregivers, Dr. Arthur Splendoria whose treatment he valued and trusted, Becky King, R.N. and the other staff at Acts-Indian River Estates who provided him with friendship and care. Amanda Lynne Cummins, 46, Micco

May 10, 1976 – May 24, 2022

Amanda Lynne Cummins (46) 1976 – 2022 passed peacefully with her loving fiancé Eric Carr in her beautiful Micco, FL home on Tuesday May 24th, 2022.

Amanda, or Mandy to many friends and family, was born on May 10th, 1976, to Leah Hawthorne & predeceased Donald Cummins in Somers Point, NJ. Amanda lives on through her sister, Natalie Klein-Moore (Tom). Amanda’s days were filled with love and light with her beloved fiancé Eric Carr and family and friends. Amanda, or Dede, was the aunt of Nicole and Paige Klein, but more like their second mother.  Mandy also lives on through her cousins Nancy (Dan) Kowanick, Jacob and Steven Szymanski and Jimmy (Dawn) Gallagher.

Mandy leaves her fur baby behind, Diesel Cummins, who holds exactly her mom’s free spirit, stubbornness and love for all those around her.

Mandy or Dede was full of life, full of love and kindness. She had so many friends and was loved by so many because of the beautiful heart and lighthearted smile she held until the very last day.

Amanda is predeceased by her longtime loving partner Joseph Baggs 2014.

Amanda was a free spirit, she traveled and lived around the world, put down her roots in Micco and made everything around her feel more like a home. Mandy made her mark on each person she came across, whether in her many years of bartending at the Eagles, detailing boats, or renovating houses with Eric.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 3 from 10:00am to 12:00pm Strunk Funeral Home 1623 N. Central Ave., Sebastian, FL 32958 with a memorial service beginning at 12 Noon. Following the service there will be a celebration of life at the Fraternal Order of Orioles US 1 Micco FL.

Services will also take place in Mandy’s hometown, Somers Point NJ, date and time to be determined. Details to be announced on Facebook.
