String Quartet Plays Schubert, Vaughan Williams in Vero Beach June 5

String Quartet Plays Schubert, Vaughan Williams

Free chamber concert features players from SCSO

(VERO BEACH, FL) May 23, 2022 – Musicians from the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will present two classic works for string quartet on Sunday, June 5 at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, 520 Royal Palm Blvd., 32960. Death and the Maiden is titled after the important Schubert chamber work of the same name, which will be performed by Joni Roos and Konstantin Dmitrov on violin, Michael de Jesus on viola and Paul Fleury on cello. Considered one of the pillars in Western chamber music, scholars debate whether each movement of Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 in D minor is about a different episode in the mythic process of death and resurrection. The quartet was not published until after the composer’s death. String Quartet No. 1 in G minor by Vaughan Williams was written in 1908, while the composer was in Paris studying with Ravel. Commentators point to Ravel’s influence in the quartet, citing lighter instrumental textures in Vaughan Williams’ music written after his return from Paris. The chamber concert Death and the Maiden is free, with a suggested donation of $20. For more information about Death and the Maiden, call toll free to 855-252-7276 or visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org.

In keeping with their mission of affordability, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents several completely free concerts for the community each season. Conductor and Artistic Director Aaron T. Collins explains why this is important.

“We started the orchestra 14 seasons ago with the idea that everyone should be able to attend a concert, regardless of their financial situation,” said Collins. “At our free concerts, we ask that people make a donation if they are able to do so. This helps compensate the very talented musicians for the time spent rehearsing and performing for the public.”

Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert. For more information about the recently announced Space Coast Symphony 2022-23 season or the Symphony for Everyone discount ticket program, visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org or call toll-free (855) 252-7276.

Aaron T. Collins is garnering recognition for his achievements.  LEAD Brevard named the ambitious Collins one of their “4 under 40” Young Professionals, the youngest-ever recipient of the honor.  Space Coast Business magazine listed him as one of Brevard’s “100 Most Admired Businesspeople.” Collins is a past recipient of the Richard A. Stark Award for cultural leadership from the Cultural Council of Indian River County. Through his personal involvement with more than a dozen performing arts groups, pioneering reciprocal ad program and social media cross promotions, Collins has gained a reputation for generosity; championing other arts organizations throughout Central Florida for the cultural enrichment of the community.

School-aged children 18 years and under are admitted free of charge, as are college students with a valid ID.  In keeping with their mission, the symphony provides a unique Symphony for Everyone ticketing program, a “pay-what-you-can” option designed to provide substantially discounted admission to any Space Coast Symphony concert.
