Elizabeth Anne Doherty, 86, Palm Bay
November 25, 1935 – May 20, 2022
Known to those that loved her as Betty. Betty loved the color purple, and would wear purple whenever she could, especially if it were the color of her leggings and scrunchy shirts. Betty was dedicated to her faith and adored the Blessed Mother. One of Betty’s favorite pastimes was shopping, especially for jewelry and Estee Lauder’s “White Linen” perfume. You’d think she purchased items right out of the Sears catalog, but they served another purpose.
Betty, a non-swimmer, loved the ocean. She’d bring her duck umbrella and a beach umbrella, stick her feet in the water and relax. Betty also loved the perks of living in Florida, such as spotting dolphins, the palm tree landscaping, and a flamingo here and there.
Betty loved to write, especially letters to her grandchildren. After retirement, Betty could be found listening to Patsy Cline while indulging in chocolate covered strawberries, ice cream, and hot tea.
Betty was associated with many things, but the most special was being the matriarch. Family always came first. Every title she was given, she did it perfectly. Daughter. Sister. Wife. Mother. Mom-mom. G-Mom-mom. Gigi.

Honors: Betty was a volunteer for Child Abuse efforts at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and received recognition for her work from Judge Lisa Richette of the Philadelphia Family Court.
Retired From: 35 years as a Phone Operator for Bel-Mid Atlantic in Philadelphia, PA. Betty later came out of retirement to be a Secretary at Ridge Automotive in Micco, FL.
Religion: Betty was a life-long, devout Catholic. She was a member of the St. Luke’s Catholic Church parish in Micco, FL for 33 years.
Memberships/Clubs/Organizations: Ladies of the Loyal Order of the Moose (Secretary & Friendship for Ladies), Barefoot Bay Women’s Dart League, Irish American Club of Barefoot Bay, MidAtlantic Club, Eagles Club, Polish Club of Barefoot Bay, British Club of Barefoot Bay
Volunteer Work: A five-time cancer survivor, Betty dedicated much of her time to sharing her experiences with others and helping them through their own journeys as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. In addition, Betty was also worked with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in the 1990s to establish a Police Athletic League youth group in Barefoot Bay. As the coordinator for the group, she worked with businesses in the community to organize events, classes, and other enrichening activities for the area’s children and teens. All free of charge.
Survived By: Her four children: Nancy O’Hara (John), Betty Anne Bartkus (David), Kathleen Short, and James Doherty (LuAnn); Her sisters: Suzanne Murphy (Joseph), Eileen Sawyer (Mike), and Jean Tregar (Harry); 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews
Predeceased By: Her parents, John and Anna “Kate” Stewart; the love of her life, James Patrick Doherty; Her sisters, Sister Regina Eileen IHM and Jean Collins; and her great-grandson, Tyler Edmund James Lawley

Ella Ruth Carrico, 95, of Sebastian, FL., formerly of South Point OH, died Tuesday May 24, 2022, at home.
Ella Ruth Carrico was born in Chesapeake, OH. On April 6, 1927.
Preceded in death by her spouse of 58 years, Earl Clifton Carrico, son in law Bill R Duncan, daughter in law Deborah Carrico, grandson Matthew Todd Hamrick, four brothers and three sisters.
She leaves behind a loving and lasting legacy with her family. Betty E. Hamrick and husband Stephen W. Hamrick, Diana R. Best and husband Randall R Best both of Sebastian. Son Ronald C. Carrico and wife Bernadette Carrico of Richmond Hill, GA. and Edna Jean Duncan Gibson and Husband Lonnie Gibson of Barboursville, WV. Her grandchildren, Scott (Teresa)Hamrick of Sebastian, FL., Chris (Penny)Hamrick of Palm Bay, FL., Laura (James)Brown of Savannah, GA., Billie (Todd) Ransbottom of Proctorville, OH, Kevin (Kris) Duncan of Chesapeake, OH., Matthew Best of Tampa, FL., eight great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren.

Joan Louie Lee, 97, Vero Beach
May 26, 1924 – May 18, 2022
Joan was born on May 26, 1924 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, to Get Poy Louie and Alice Tam Louie. Growing up, she played the violin in the orchestra and was quite active in student groups. In 1946 she graduated from McGill University (in Montreal, Canada) and then she went to Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts for a graduate degree. She did an internship in Baltimore, MD where she met her future husband, Dr. Benjamin B. Lee. She received her Master’s degree in Social Work and married on the same day, September 1, 1948. Theirs was a marriage of 73 love-filled years, ending only because of Benjamin’s death on September 12, 2021.
Joan worked as a social worker in adoption services at Family and Children’s Society in Baltimore, while Benjamin finished college at Johns Hopkins University and also while he went to medical school at University of Maryland. Then they had 2 children, Yvonne and Douglas. While the children were in school, Joan became totally involved in their activities – both at school and after – PTA, music lessons, church activities, theater classes, Chinese language classes, Chinese family camp, swimming lessons, cultural experiences, and the like. When the children were older, Joan went back to work, this time as a psychiatric social worker in a Taylor Manor Hospital (a private psychiatric hospital). Her last position was a hospice social worker at St. Agnes Hospital. After Ben’s retirement as an anesthesiologist, they lived in Ocean City, MD; Vero Beach, FL; Shoreline, WA; and finally back to Vero Beach, FL in 2015. Ben and Joan also enjoyed traveling and even went on missionary trips to Nigeria and Australia.
Joan had a special heart for children and young people, not just her own. She combined her love of children with her love of music while volunteering in musical theater productions (especially Gilbert and Sullivan) performed in her children’s school. She and Ben often hosted get-togethers for Johns Hopkins students at their home (she was a great cook). And later in life, they taught Sunday School and worked in the nursery at church. Wherever she was, she focused on the children or young people around.
Joan was full of life and always cheerful and optimistic. She brightened everyone’s day, even when she developed severe dementia. She had a very strong faith in God, and that carried through her dementia as well.
She is survived by her children, Yvonne Lee Tso (James Tso) and Douglas J. Lee (Lyn Sullivan Lee); step granddaughter, Kimberly Tso (John Pomeroy); step grandsons, Travis Sullivan (Megan Sullivan); Gavin Sullivan (Shadia K’David); Brandon Sullivan; Collin Sullivan (Annelise Sullivan); and step grand daughter, Megan Sullivan. Step great grandchildren include: Kaiya Pomeroy-Tso; Jacqueline Pomeroy-Tso; Cailyn Sullivan, Brynne Sullivan; Alec Sullivan; Gibran Sullivan; Ezekiel Sullivan; Chance Sullivan; Rowan Sullivan; and Anderson Sullivan. She is survived by her sister Bernice Kwong (David Kwong) and the family of her deceased sister, Rose Jay (Dan Jay). On her husband’s side, she is also survived by his siblings: third brother Wing Lee (Nitaya Lee), Lane Lee (Helen Lee), Jane Lee Marriott (Richard Marriott), Sue Lee Wong (Douglas Wong), Bai Liang Lee (Mei Shan Lee) and their families. She is survived as well by the families of his deceased brothers, King Lee (Marie Lee) and Joe Lee (Patsy Fasano), and his deceased sister, Kay Lee.
In this time of covid, there will be a video-based memorial service for family and close friends. Donations can be made in memory of Joan L.
