 General Conditions

April welcomed us with some beautiful days. Vero had an average high temperature of 81.9 and average low of 64.5. With an average for the month at 73.2. Precipitation totaled to 3.46” *data from weather.gov. The surf averaged 2 feet with a couple of days of west winds that leads to rafts blowing out to sea.

All swimmers are advised to pay close attention to beach condition signs and flags, swim near lifeguard towers and avoid swimming during non-guarded hours.

Areas of Concern

At South beach there are at times very powerful rip currents. Especially straight out from the volleyball nets. Use caution when swimming at South in this area. The slope created at South Beach Park makes it difficult for lifeguards to see the waterline. The more people that swim outside the guarded area are likely out of view of the guards which increases the likelihood of accidents and drownings. It is strongly recommended that beach patrons talk to the lifeguards about these areas prior to getting in the water.

Dog owners are welcome to walk their dogs outside any of our guarded beaches. The animals must remained leashed and droppings discarded properly. Dogs are still prohibited in our three beach parks at Jaycee, Hermiston and South Beach

Areas of Progress

The new Humiston beach lifeguard tower is still in the works. With the pandemic disrupting supply chain and availability of workers, progress has been slow. VBLA’s goal of giving our lifeguards the ability to see more of the beach and react to emergencies faster by building a lifeguard tower and command center at Humiston Park will be a reality once we find a donor.
