1 dead in vehicle versus motorcycle crash; U.S. 1 northbound reopen

Update: U.S. 1 northbound reopened by 10:30 p.m. Thursday after being closed following a fatal vehicle versus motorcycle crash, Vero Beach police said.

VERO BEACH — One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle late Thursday, leading police to block northbound U.S. 1, officers said.

The wreck involving the vehicle and a motorcycle happened about 6:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of U.S. 1 near BigShots Golf Vero Beach, police spokesperson Master Officer Darrell Rivers said. Further details on the person killed and the other vehicle involved were not immediately available.

Police released limited information since the person’s next of kin has not yet been notified. It was not immediately known if other injuries were reported.

Officers closed northbound U.S. 1 between 37th Street and Aviation Boulevard. The roadway was expected to be blocked for several hours.

Drivers should seek alternate routes.

VERO BEACH — A 34-year-old man was jailed after a beating and stabbing that left a woman with severe injuries requiring surgery earlier this week, officers said. Police reviewed surveillance footage and described the incident as a vicious, unprovoked attack. "After speaking with medical staff, it was reported that (the victim) received treatment for four lacerations to the lower intestines, two lacerations to the colon and the removal of her spleen," Vero Beach police said in a report. Motorcyclist killed in two-vehicle crash Monday in parking lot

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A motorcyclist died after he drove at a high speed through a parking lot, zoomed past a stop sign and slammed into another vehicle late Monday, sheriff's officials said. Deputies later learned the motorcycle was stolen from Orange County, according to Sgt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. "Upon the arrival of deputies, the motorcycle rider was unresponsive and CPR was performed," Jaworski said.
