1 dead in vehicle versus motorcycle crash; U.S. 1 northbound reopen

Update: U.S. 1 northbound reopened by 10:30 p.m. Thursday after being closed following a fatal vehicle versus motorcycle crash, Vero Beach police said.

VERO BEACH — One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle late Thursday, leading police to block northbound U.S. 1, officers said.

The wreck involving the vehicle and a motorcycle happened about 6:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of U.S. 1 near BigShots Golf Vero Beach, police spokesperson Master Officer Darrell Rivers said. Further details on the person killed and the other vehicle involved were not immediately available.

Police released limited information since the person’s next of kin has not yet been notified. It was not immediately known if other injuries were reported.

Officers closed northbound U.S. 1 between 37th Street and Aviation Boulevard. The roadway was expected to be blocked for several hours.

Drivers should seek alternate routes.
