Annette S. Fontaine, 96, of Vero Palm Estates, died November 3, 2021 at Renaissance Senior Living in Vero Beach after a brief illness.
She was born August 2, 1925, in Manchester, NH and later lived in Syracuse, NY and again in Manchester before moving to Vero Beach, where she resided the past 23 years.
Annette was a Communicant of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. She also served as a volunteer for several years at VNA/Hospice House in Vero Beach.
She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Robert Fontaine and her brother, Louis Chandonnet.
Surviving are her sons, Dr. Ernest Fontaine (Michael) of Harrisburg, PA., Mark Fontaine of Syracuse, NY and one daughter, Nancy Fogarty (William) of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Robert (Jeanne) Chandonnet and one sister, Diane (Robert) Labrie who are both of Laconia, NH. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
There will be no local services. Interment will be in the Spring at St. Augustine Cemetery in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The family suggests donations if desired, be made to VNA/Hospice of Indian River County, 1111 36th St. Vero Beach, Florida 32960 in Mrs. Fontaine’s memory.

Susan J. (Lyga) Kemper passed away peacefully on November 2, 2021 in Vero Beach, Florida following a heroic battle with cancer. Susan was born in Syracuse, NY in 1952, and lived most of her life in Cazenovia, NY, where she graduated High School and attended Cazenovia College. Susan had a love for all animals. She and her horse, Petite, were a bonded pair and fierce competitors. She was well respected in the Quarter Horse Circuit, won multiple championships, and was featured on the cover of NYS Horse Association’s magazine. In 1966, she was awarded the Reserve Championship at the NY State Breeders Horse Show held at the Coliseum in Syracuse. This was a competition in the trail class, with many professional entries from all sections of the U.S. east of the Mississippi. Susan was happiest when she had a dog in her home and cared for them like members of her family. It was evident that the love was reciprocated, as Tucker would literally jump out of windows just to be with her and Molly provided loyal companionship during Susan’s final months.
Susan’s beauty followed her wherever she went, she had a distinctive laugh and her infectious smile could light up a room. She was endearing in nature and her hospitality was consistently above par as she enjoyed cooking and caring for her loved ones. She found pleasure in gardening and canning; her tomato sauce and pickles were staples at family functions. She always made the holidays extra special, whether it was with thoughtful gifts, exemplary decorations, baked treats, handmade costumes, or phone calls to her nieces and nephews from a “cackling witch,” she never failed to impress. Susan’s children were her life; she was a fearless matriarch. She spent countless hours cheering them on at hockey games and tournaments. Her door was always open to her children’s friends, who often referred to her as “mom.” She always took the time to listen when anyone needed to talk. She demonstrated the utmost patience with her grandchildren as they talked to her about their days and took her for long “tours” around their house. They loved spending time with their Nana, specifically because she was gentle and kind and she always said, “Yes” when asked if they could have ice cream for dinner.
Susan is survived by her four children, Brett Armstrong (Kristen), Chad Armstrong (Krysten Balfe), Jamie Armstrong, and Ross Armstrong (Susie); three grandchildren; Blake, Jason, and Gabrielle; her step-children, Mary Beth Kemper, Steven Kemper, Joseph Kemper, and Emmett Sullivan Kemper; her brother David Lyga (Denise), sisters Meg Clark, and Sandy Penoyer (Carl), as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Her mother and father, Betty and Donald Lyga, and her beloved husband Phillip Kemper predeceased her. Susan and Phil both enjoyed the final years of their life together in Vero Beach, Florida and Wellesley Island, New York. They enjoyed golfing, boating, and spending time with friends and family.
There will be a memorial service at a later date with arrangements to be announced. A private family burial will be held in Wellesley Island Cemetery, New York. Richard Joseph Gibula, 87, Vero Beach
March 2, 1934 – November 6, 2021
Richard Joseph Gibula, of Vero Beach, Florida, was called to his Heavenly Father on November 6, 2021, following a long illness. He left this world peacefully at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital with his family at his side.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Richard served in the Armed Forces, earned his BA and MBA degrees and enjoyed a rewarding career in electrical engineering. He and his wife, Dorothy, raised their five children in the Chicago area before establishing residence in Vero Beach in 1992.
As an accomplished artist, Richard received many accolades for his watercolor paintings and enjoyed volunteering at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. He also was a volunteer tax consultant for the AARP for many years. A devout Catholic, Richard was an active parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Richard is survived by Dorothy and their five children: Gary (Lynn), Jeff (Darlene), Julie Schorr (Ron), Suzanne Shapiro (Michael) and Elizabeth Prather (Scott). He will be dearly missed by his seven loving grandchildren: Jacob, Daniel, Nathan and Sophie Shapiro; Veronica Schorr; and Joseph and Grace Gibula.

Michael James Hatch, 49, Vero Beach

Michael James Hatch (49), left home for “Home” on Monday, November 8, 2021.
He was born in Vero Beach, FL on August 5, 1972, where he remained throughout his life.
Michael is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Ruth Hatch; his grandparents, Harold and Anna Hatch, and Nellie Lloyd; and his daughter, Meagan Hatch.
He is survived by his two siblings, Tari Gomez (John) of Vero Beach and Joseph Hatch of Dawsonville, GA; his children, Rebecca Hatch (Tampa), Michael Hatch, Jr. (Vero Beach), Kaitlyn Hatch (Gainesville), Jacob Hatch (Vero Beach), and Brittany Hatch (Orlando); his grandchildren, Caiden, Laylah and Corbin, all of Vero Beach; along with many great-aunts, great-uncles, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Although Michael will be greatly missed, the family takes comfort in knowing he is in the presence of God, his parents and Meagan, and that he is no longer suffering.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
