The spirit of the spooky season continues with a couple of performances sure to tingle your spine … or at least tickle it.

This is the final weekend to see Vero Beach Theatre Guild’s “Dracula,” based on the Bram Stoker classic and written by director Alex Martinez. Having a Halloween-appropriate production is unique to the theater, says the organization’s artistic director Jon Putzke. What is also unusual for the Theatre Guild is the new rotating stage designed and built by the company’s scenic designer and tech director Jeffrey Hall. The revolving stage allows the action of all the usual suspects chasing down Count Dracula to flow quickly from one scene to the next. It works without a hitch, says Putzke. The show performs 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-16, and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sunday, Oct. 16-17. Tickets are $15 to $30, plus a $2 surcharge. The Vero Beach Theatre Guild is at 2020 San Juan Ave. Call 772-562-8300 or visit VeroBeach

Follow that with the Orchestral Spooktacular at the performing by the Vero Beach High School orchestra. The annual event features the talented musicians playing spooky tunes. Be sure to get your little ones in costumes as well. The concert begins 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th St. Tickets are $10 and $12. Call 772-564-5537 or visit VeroBeachPerformingArts.com.

October is also a time that invites you outside. There are many events to catch that spirit, and curiously, a couple of them have to do with the same activity – cornhole tosses. The Exchange Club of Indian River Foundation holds its fifth annual “Toss Out Child Abuse Charity Cornhole Tournament” 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Walking Tree Brewery. Practice and registration begin 11 a.m. and the double elimination begins at noon. Teams of two will play a minimum of three games. There will be payouts of $100 to $400 to the winners. The cost is $40 per team in advance or $50 at the door. Proceeds benefit the Exchange Club of Indian River Foundation, which has in its mission helping to provide essential services for the community and children. Walking Tree Brewery is at 3209 Dodger Rd., Vero Beach. Call 772-532-3975 or 772-217-3502. To register in advance, visit ExchangeClubOfIndianRiver.org and click onto the “Toss Out Child Abuse” tab at the top of the homepage.

The Sebastian Police Department holds its inaugural Cornhole Tournament noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Capt. Hiram’s Resort, 1580 U.S. 1, Sebastian. While the deadline to register for the event has already passed, there should still be plenty of fun to be had as a spectator. The tournament pits 32 teams against each other as they vie for cash prizes. You can also participate in raffles, which have a whole array of fabulous prizes, including a full-day deep sea fishing charter for up to six people courtesy AA Fishing Charter; or a duck hunt for two courtesy the Indian River Guide Services. There are also scads of other great prizes to be awarded in the raffles. Proceeds from the event will benefit the SPD’s Special Response Team. For more information, call 772-589-5233 or visit CityOfSebastian.org. And if you want to learn more about the Sebastian Police Department, or would like to get to know some of the people in it, get to the Community Night Out running 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14. The Community Night Out brings representatives of local, state and federal law enforcement, plus first responders and military members into a friendly, casual setting with live music, K-9 demonstrations, free popcorn, snow cones and hotdogs.
