INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An updated report from Florida Highway Patrol showed a truck driver ran a red light causing a fatal two-vehicle crash in June on State Road 60. The updated information is a reversal from initial reports that the other driver was at fault.
VeroNews received the updated traffic crash report in September. The deadly wreck claimed the life of a 61-year-old Vero Beach woman, reports show.
The fatal collision happened shortly after 10 a.m. June 16 at the S.R. 60 and 90th Avenue intersection, just east of Interstate 95. Troopers said a 63-year-old Clewiston man was traveling eastbound in a white Ford truck pulling a trailer in the inside lane on S.R. 60.
Three other Clewiston men were riding as passengers in the truck, reports show. Troopers said the Vero Beach woman was in a grey Mazda sitting in the inside turning lane at 90th Avenue.
The truck driver ran the red light as the Mazda driver traveled into the intersection, the updated report showed. The new details are a reversal from initial reports that the truck driver had a green light and that the Mazda driver ran a red light.
Troopers were not immediately available to explain the discrepancy.
Troopers said the truck crashed into the left side of the Mazda. The impact pushed the Mazda across the westbound lanes and into a ditch.
The Mazda driver had “no contributing action” to the collision, according to the updated traffic crash report. The woman was taken by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead, officials said.
