1 hurt from self-inflicted gunshot wound at Golden Sands Beach Park

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One person was injured after suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday morning at Golden Sands Beach Park, sheriff’s officials said.

An update on the individual’s condition was not immediately available.

Indian River County deputies responded to reports of shots fired about 11:30 a.m. at Golden Sands Beach Park, north of Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club. The incident occurred at the southwest end of the park, Indian River County sheriff’s spokesperson Keith Carson said.

The person was taken to the Indian River County Fairgrounds. The individual was then flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce.

Deputies marked off the park area with crime scene tape earlier. Law enforcement officers had left the park by 3 p.m.

It was unclear if a weapon was found in the park area. No further details were immediately available.
