The Gifford Youth Orchestra (GYO),  has received approval to begin to teach classes at Gifford Middle School for the 2021-2022 school year. Starting September 1st, GYO instructors will use designated classrooms for in-person musical instruction for the children of Gifford and surrounding communities. Some instruction may also be done over Zoom.

“I’m so excited to have this partnership and opportunity for the students in our community,” said Tosha Jones, Principal at Gifford Middle School. “This is the BEST NEWS!”

A historical educational landmark, Gifford Middle School is a Title 1 STEAM with focus on Marine and Robotics. Their diverse campus prides itself on academics, arts, athletics, and community engagement.

The GYO Staff includes: Patricia Pichette (Executive Director), Daryll Dobson (Music Director), and Linda Scott (Program Coordinator). Instructors include: Sue Lorimer (Piano Director), Lynn DiMenna (Vocal Coaching), Abby Lorimer (Strings), Courtney Diaz (Strings), Joan Haar (Strings), Matthew Oostdyk (Violin) and Jamari Johnson Williams (Drama).

Information on the GYO: Established in 2003 by Dr. Bujol at the prompting of Gifford resident Annie Powell, GYO’s mission is to provide education and training in various cultural and performing arts for the youth of Gifford and neighboring communities.

With a core focus on mastering stringed instruments, over 221 young people have had instruction opportunities in music, drama, and vocal arts.

The Gifford Florida Youth Orchestra is a 501(c)(3) Non Profit Florida Corporation not affiliated with or a division of any other corporation. They are a Community Resource for children, primarily in Gifford, as well as other neighboring communities in Indian River County.
