Deputies arrested Martiniano Flores Hernandez, of the 8800 block of U.S. 1, Sebastian, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Flores Hernandez was released Tuesday from the Indian River County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Indian River County deputies responded to reports of an incident involving a firearm that happened about 6 p.m. Monday at Vero Beach Kamp, 8850 U.S. 1, Sebastian. Vero Beach Kamp is an RV and tenting campground that has 120 full set-up sites available year-round, according to its website.

A man told deputies he was speaking to his friend Flores Hernandez earlier at the site. The man said Flores Hernandez, for an unknown reason, “flipped like a switch” and was unprovoked by any interaction, reports show.

The man said Flores Hernandez went inside his RV and came back out holding a gray firearm. The man told deputies Flores Hernandez loaded rounds into the gun and then pointed it at him, reports show.

The man said he feared Flores Hernandez would shoot and kill him, deputies said.

Flores Hernandez told deputies the man threatened him by saying he would “slit his throat and feed him to the pigs,” reports show. Flores Hernandez said the man did not have a weapon.

The man told deputies Flores Hernandez’ story was “completely false,” reports show.

Deputies searched Flores Hernandez’ RV and found the gun inside a drawer in a bedroom. Inside the drawer, deputies also found six rounds of .38 special ammunition, which they said appeared to have been emptied from the revolver, reports show.

Deputies arrested Flores Hernandez and took him to the county jail. Flores Hernandez has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Oct. 1, court records show.
