Deputies said Samuel William Giard, 32, reached speeds of more than 100 mph near 67th Street and U.S. 1, westbound County Road 510 and eastbound County Road 512. Giard then accelerated to more than 140 mph when he reached southbound Interstate 95, reports show.

Indian River County deputies arrested Giard on charges of felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license with knowledge, and no motorcycle endorsement. Giard was released Tuesday from the Indian River County Jail on $31,500 bond.

Deputies responded to reports of a reckless driver about 8 p.m. Sunday in the 7700 block of U.S. 1. Dispatchers told deputies a man, later identified as Giard, was riding on a black Yamaha sports bike weaving in and out of traffic.

Deputies activated their emergency sirens, but Giard kept driving, reports show. Giard ran stop signs and red lights before reaching southbound I-95, deputies said.

Giard continued driving at a high speed on the interstate, took the Vero Beach exit, and got back on I-95 using the northbound lanes, reports show. Deputies said Giard then went westbound on C.R. 512 and pulled into a Sunoco gas station, where deputies detained him.

Deputies learned Giard’s license was suspended. Giard also had eight active suspensions and one revocation, reports show.

Deputies arrested Giard and booked him into the county jail. Giard has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 10, court records show.
