Deputies arrested Kwame Kevin Henry, of the 1800 block of Woodland Circle, Vero Beach, on a variety of charges including trafficking a controlled substance, possession of cocaine, four counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana more than 20 grams. Henry was released Monday from the Indian River County Jail on $200,000 bond.

Indian River County deputies conducted a traffic stop just after midnight July 10 on a white Mercedes Benz at U.S. 1 and Commerce Avenue, Vero Beach, north of 20th Street. Deputies ordered the driver, Henry, out of the Mercedes after officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, reports show.

Deputies searched Henry’s pockets and found two circular pills that had images of an 8-ball. The pills tested positive for methamphetamine, reports show.

Inside the Mercedes, deputies found loose cannabis flakes in a Mason jar along with a loaded 9mm handgun and ammunition, officials said. Deputies also searched a backpack that had pill bottles containing controlled substances including Adderall, Acetaminophen, Oxycodone Hydrochloride, Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine, reports show.

Deputies found 37.5 blue, white and green Alprazolam pills that they said were slightly disintegrated and discolored. Test results showed the Alprazolam pills tested positive for the presence of fentanyl, reports show.

Deputies also found several bags containing marijuana and cocaine. Henry told deputies all of the narcotics in the Mercedes belonged to him, reports show.

Deputies arrested Henry and booked him into the county jail. Henry has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Aug. 13, court records show.

Henry was convicted of attempted second-degree murder in Jan. 2010 for an incident that happened a year prior in St. Lucie County, court records show. Henry served seven years at the Department of Corrections.
