Laura (Riding) Jackson Conversation Series Part III

Laura Riding and Dialectical Thinking

LRJ scholar Dr. Simon Tilbury will discuss whether dialectical thinking exists in the poems of Laura Riding by examining ‘The Contraband’, ‘Death as Death’, and ‘Nothing So Far’.

Dr. Tilbury brings us the third installment of our Conversation Series, a series of free interactive discussions led by Laura (Riding) Jackson scholars over Zoom.

This discussion will be held over Zoom on Wednesday, June 30 at 12 pm EDT. Registration is required.

Dr. Simon Tilbury first came across Laura (Riding) Jackson in 1991, after reading her obituaries in the British newspapers. The 1980 Collected Poems was still available in bookshops, and so began a lifelong passion for her inimitable, uniquely challenging poetry and thought. Simon’s doctoral study focused on the dialectical dimensions of her writing, which he believes is one of the most important aspects to be aware of when approaching Laura (Riding) Jackson. Now a freelance copy-editor, Simon has edited widely in the academic field, for authors of non-fiction books, autobiography, mindfulness and spirituality. He is currently writing an article on the late, ‘post-renunciation’ poems of Laura (Riding) Jackson and is also adapting his thesis for publication. He is a keen musician and singer-songwriter, performing under the name ‘murnau in silver’.
