Exhibition at Raw Space

EXHIBITION: 3 STEPS FORWARD – 2 STEPS BACK

The exhibition, 3 Steps Forward – 2 Steps Back, is currently on display at the Raw Space Gallery in Vero Beach through April 30, 2021.  This exhibit is a multicultural, multiracial collaboration that addresses systemic racism in our nation.

With a goal of keeping the conversation on racial injustice and systemic racism going, this exhibition combines art forms to promote social change. The exhibit is an immersive experience that includes fine art, poetry, dance, music and video.

The exhibition will include art by Pamela Pike Gordinier, poetry by Rhonda Ward, music by Kirk Edwards and research by Dr. Glenn Gordinier.   Advisor to the project is Robert Richter, The Director of Arts Programing at Connecticut College.

The title, 3 Steps Forward – 2 Steps Back, references the solemn parade style during the religious festival of Cristo Negro in Panama.  For many, it is meant as a form of protest against Spanish colonialism which brought with it slavery and racism.

Given the recent protests against 400 years of systemic racism in our country, it feels as though we as a nation, go 3 steps forward, 2 steps back.  This exhibit will confront and present some of the challenges as we work to eliminate racism.

On Wed., April 21st at 7pm there will be a virtual presentation of the exhibit.  All donations will go the Gifford Historical Museum and Cultural Center. To sign up for the presentation, please contact: lordshillstudiio@gmail.com.
