James Johns Gustine, 86 Vero Beach

May 17, 1934April 07, 2021

James Johns Gustine, Vero Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at the Cleveland Clinic in Vero Beach. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Franklin J. Gustine and Opal Johns Gustine Peterson. He married Carolyn Polousky in 1959. He married Kay Stevens in 1972.

Surviving are his daughters; Jennifer (Steve) Ator, Danville, Illinois, Cynthia (Scott) Sherman, Pine, Colorado, Joanna (Steve) Streb, Iowa City, Iowa, Michael (Liz) Stevens, Thorton, Colorado, Chrystal (Jeff) Poplett, Galesburg, Illinois, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A nephew, Jerry (Lori) Gustine, Colorado Springs, Colorado, also survives. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Franklin Gustine.

Jim graduated from Galesburg High School and attended Knox College. He served in the U.S. Marines. He was employed by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years and was an active member of UTU. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Lake Bracken Country Club when he resided in Galesburg.

Cremation will be accorded per his request. Services are pending.

Paul Eugene Spilman, 93

Paul Eugene Spilman, age 93, formerly of Bella Vista, AR, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021, in Vero Beach, FL.

He was born September 24, 1927, in Omaha, NE. After high school, he enrolled in the United States Navy, as a Seaman, Second Class, and served during WWII. In 1950, Paul married Anna Bell Marie Raether, and they made their home in Elkhorn, NE.  Throughout his life, Paul worked as a plumber.  In 1992, Paul and Ann moved to Bella Vista, AR, where he enjoyed golf and fishing in his retirement years.

Paul was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, Waterloo Lodge No. 102, of Elkhorn, NE, and Tangier Shrine, Omaha, NE.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; son, Terry Thomas (Ann) of Sun Lakes, AZ; son, Lynn Spilman (Barbara) of Vero Beach, FL; and daughter, Melanie Lundy, of Bella Vista, AR. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Mr. Spilman was predeceased by his parents, David and Ruth Spilman, his sister, Beverly Combs, and two grandsons, Ryan Lundy and Jared Lundy.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Spilman’s name may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL  33607.

Richard J. Hriscenko, 76, Vero Beach

September 7, 1944 – April 7, 2021

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, Richard J. Hriscenko, loving husband, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, passed away at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL.

Richard was born on September 7, 1944, in New Jersey.  He graduated from Garfield High School in NJ where he was a stand-out in football and track and field.  He served in the NJ Army National Guard. Richard was married to Maureen Benny, on October 14, 1972 and they resided in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ  until moving to Vero Beach, FL.

He had a long career in the fashion industry, most notably as a pattern maker.

After moving to Robles Del Mar in Vero Beach, FL in 1997, he worked for the Frugal Framers then Merit Apparel until he retired.

Richard was an avid fisherman who shared his passion with everyone.  He was also a life long NY Giants, NY Yankees, and Notre Dame fan.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen of Vero Beach, FL, David Benny of Vero Beach, FL, Bruce Benny of Emerson, NJ and nephews Kevin, Morgan, Eric and niece Deborah.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Rose and brother Robert.

Edward A. Parziale, 73, Sebastian

November 10, 1947 – April 01, 2021

Edward A. Parziale, age 73 passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 in Sebastian, Florida where he was surrounded in love by his family.  He was born to the late Danté and Phillis Parziale in Brooklyn, NY on November 10, 1947. He lived on Long Island, where he attended New York Tech University. On October 25, 1974 he married his best friend and love of his life, Ginny. He was most proud of his work with Fairchild Republic where he engineered the A-10 Bomber during the Vietnam era.

In 1977, Ed and his wife moved to South Florida to embark on a new career opportunity with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law. For 23 years he successfully owned and operated Cozzoli’s Pizzeria in downtown Miami. After retiring from the restaurant business, he opened several laundromats in the West Palm Beach area.

Ed settled in Sebastian, Florida in 2014 where he enjoyed retirement with his loving wife of 46 years. With a creative mind and a can do attitude, he enjoyed various hobbies such as working on his cars, fixing nearly anything that needed fixing, making candles and sailing on the ocean with his family.

Ed is survived by his wife Ginny, his brother Daniel Parziale, his sisters and brothers in law, Paul, Terry, Pam and Eddie, his nieces and nephews, Lisa, Paul, Staci, Brian; their spouses, and Nicki and Amanda as well as his great niece and nephews, Michael, Rylee, Grady, Nicholas, Griffin and Daniel.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 16, 2021 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father Sparks, celebrant. Interment will take place at Holy Rood Cemetery, West Berry, Long Island, New York.
