Norman Joost, 84, Vero Beach

March 26, 1937 – April 02, 2021

Norman Joost, age 84, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away April 2, 2021.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 26, 1937 to parents, Emil and Anna Hendrickson Joost. Norman lived most of his life in Queens, NY, prior to moving to Vero Beach in 2004.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve.

Norman was a graduate of Pace University, NY, earning his Bachelor’s degree in marketing.

He spent many years at Schweppes, NYC, finally retiring from Air India, NYC.

Norman was an avid tennis player and bridge master.

Along with his parents, Norman was predeceased by his brother, Spencer Joost.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 8, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church, Vero Beach, with Dr. G. Timothy Womack, officiating.

Memorial contributions in his name, may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd., Vero Beach, FL  32960.

Donna Lee Crosby, 81, Vero Beach

January 7, 1940 – April 4, 2021

Donna Lee Crosby, age 81, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on April 4th,2021 from an eleven-year battle with cancer.

She was the owner of Headliners hair design for many years and was an avid artist.

Donna was a former member of the Garden Club, a girl scout leader, active with the 4-H, and FFA. She enjoyed painting, tending to her orchids, and preparing fabulous holiday meals for her family. She was a true jokester at heart.

Preceded in death by her parents, Harry A. Dillon and Leonore T. Simington Dillon, her Sister Gloria Presson, and her son in law Louie Tom Fretwell.

She is survived by her husband Billy B. Crosby of 61 years, their four children, Toby Fretwell, Stacey Pottinger (Daniel), William “Bart” Crosby II (JoAnn), and Denise Sanders (Scott). Thirteen Grandchildren, Brittany Pittman (David), Kelsi Fretwell and Wyatt Fretwell, Courtney Pottinger, Zac Pottinger, William B. Crosby III (Chelsea), Tyler Crosby, Chandler Crosby, Beau Sanders, Tate Sanders, Clayton Sanders, Emilie Rappel, and Caleb Rappel.  She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Kenzi Mizelle, Lee Pittman, Griffin Pittman, Zedeline Crosby, and William B. Crosby IV.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, April 7th, 2021 from 10:30AM to 11:30AM at Strunk Funeral Home, 916 17th St, Vero Beach, followed by a Graveside Service at Crestlawn Cemetery.

Donald Rae Hackert, 87, Sebastian

May 28, 1933 – April 01, 2021

Donald Rae Hackert passed away April 1,2021.  Formerly of Mount Kisco, NY and Londonderry, NH, he was a resident of Sebastian, FL.  He was a pilot for Mohawk Airlines, Allegheny Airlines and US Airways.

Don was born in 1933 in Bronx, NY the son of Frederick Hackert and Dorothy Glasgow Hackert.  After the death of his mother, his father married Julia Welsh Hackert who had his four siblings Thomas, Beverly, Dianne and Herbert.

Don graduated from Mount Kisco High School and served in the US Army in Germany.  Afterward, he worked on the ground crew at Westchester County Airport.  One night, he and another ground crew member were stopped by police racing each other home.  The next issue of the local paper carried the headline “Two airport employees caught flying low through Armonk.”

Don got his pilot’s license, and was hired by Mohawk Airlines in 1966.  He became a captain with Allegheny Airlines, and retired from US Airways in 1996.

Don coached and umpired for Little League Baseball in Londonderry, NH.  He retired to Sebastian, FL and he enjoyed golf, potato chips and Diet Coke.

He is survived by his loving sons Brian and Timothy, his granddaughter Sarah, his great grandchildren Aiden, Ava and Alexander, and his siblings Tommy, Dianne and Bev.
