Bicyclist hurt after being struck by motorcycle

INDIAN RIVER SHORES — A bicyclist was injured after being struck by a motorcycle Friday afternoon, officials said.

The collision happened about 2:12 p.m. at Bermuda Bay Lane and State Road A1A in Indian River Shores, south of John’s Island complex, Shores Sgt. William Crosby said. Witnesses told officers that the bicyclist – a 58-year-old woman – was headed westbound on Bermuda Bay Lane when she was hit by the northbound motorcycle.

The motorcyclist tried to avoid the collision, but was unsuccessful, witnesses told authorities.

The bicyclist’s town of residence was not available. The motorcyclist – a 59-year-old Jensen Beach man – was not hurt, Crosby said.

Shores officers found the woman lying flat in the southbound lane.

The woman was alert and talking, Crosby said. Crosby said the woman had cuts to her left knee and hands, and was bleeding from the forehead.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce as a precaution, Shores Cpt. Mark Shaw said. Shores officers are investigating the cause of the wreck.

No further details were immediately available.
