New works of art at the Center for Spiritual Care April 2-30

Painter Mags Hobbs presents an exhibition of entirely new paintings at the Center for Spiritual Care

April 2-30.

The British-born Hobbs, a graduate of the Royal Leamington Spa College of Art in Warwickshire, began her career as a textile designer.  Those early roots taught her to study her world carefully to discover mark-making and patterns not only in nature but in the urban bustle that surrounded her. These became — and still remain — the inspiration for her work.

Center Director Carol Ludwig finds Hobb’s paintings “exuberant and filled with joy.”
“Her works are deceptive in a way,” Ludwig says, “because her surfaces are so filled with color and excitement that it’s easy to overlook the fact that they’re quite carefully constructed. They’re exhilarating.”

After graduation, Hobbs created a highly successful textile company featuring custom-designed quilts that became popular throughout the UK.  Ten years ago, she and her husband, a champion race car driver and commentator for CBS and NBC, moved to Vero Beach where she finally found time to paint seriously.

Her paintings can be seen at the Center by appointment between 10 and 4 seven days a week.
