Fredo Henry’s birthday bash is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for the human and canine residents of Orchid Island.

On Valentine’s weekend, partygoers came bearing gifts – not for the adorable little cavapoo (a cavalier poodle mix), but for the animals at the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County and H.A.L.O. Fredo’s mom, Michele Henry, estimated that 40 pooches and “at least 90 to 100 Orchid members” brought bedding, blankets, towels, dog food and, for the first time, cat food, ultimately amassing two vanloads of supplies and roughly $1,200 in contributions.

Attendees enjoyed dog-centric conversation and an enticing array of refreshments for both species. Pals pitched in to help Michele and Cliff Henry pull it off, with Michele noting, “I couldn’t have done it without Ann and AC Starkey’s help. Can you believe I left the corkscrew home?”
