Filmmaker and arts educator Xaque Gruber presents an exhibition of watercolors and mixed media pieces at the Center for Spiritual Care Mar. 5-29. The show honors Gruber’s late father, each work evoking an aspect of what he meant to his son. It is called “Where David Went: Reflections by a Son.”
“Xaque remembers a man whose life was defined by joy and optimism,” says Center director Carol Ludwig. “His paintings are full of color and love.”
As his caretaker, Gruber helped his father deal with Alzheimer’s Disease in the last years of his life. Proceeds from the exhibition will benefit the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research.
Gruber’s short film, made in Vero Beach in 2018 and starring local actors Isabel Garrett, Nick Keeler and Anne Talbot, won at the Cannes International Film Festival. His first Hollywood comedy, “Sallywood,” featuring Sally Kirkland, is scheduled for release this year.
He holds a degree in drawing from the Pratt Institute and was Massachusetts Art Teacher of the Year in 2004.
Gruber and his exhibition will be featured Mar.7 at 8 a.m. on WAXE, 107.9 FM, with Willi Miller; Mar. 10 on Andrew Galuska’s Wednesdays at 1 live stream at CCOVB Facebook; and a discussion with art critic Ellen Fischer Mar. 16 at 7 p.m. on Zoom.
