Two men stabbed at homeless camp, taken to trauma center

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two unidentified men were seriously hurt after being stabbed early Thursday at a homeless camp, fire rescue crews said.

It was unclear if a suspect was in custody.

The incident happened about 9:30 a.m. in the woods behind the Vero Beach Outlets mall, just west of Interstate 95, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said. Kofke said the men “appeared to be stabbed with something,” though it was unclear if a weapon was recovered.

The men were taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Kofke said. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the incident.

No further details were immediately available.
