Rose Marie McDermott Cotter, 85, Vero Beach

Rose Marie McDermott Cotter, 85, of Vero Beach, passed away Nov. 26, 2020, after a long illness.  Born July 28, 1935, in Rockville Centre, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late John McDermott and Mary Connelly McDermott.

Marie graduated from Dominican Commercial High School.

A free spirit at heart, Marie was a very talented singer and performed at Little Carnegie Hall as well as several plays under the tutelage of Miss Leoni. She sang for many weddings at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Astoria, where she was also wed in 1954 to her late husband, Michael Cotter.

She worked at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York; New York Telephone and TWA, from which she retired before moving to Florida.

Upon her retirement, Marie continued to stay busy as a member of several local civic organizations such as the Elk’s Club, the Irish Club, the Rosary Society and as a volunteer usher at the Riverside Theater.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Brenda Cotter; son, Shaun Cotter; her sister Kathleen Pellegrino; brother, Thomas McDermott; a grandson, Justin Maza; and many other loving family and friends.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Dec. 3, 1 p.m. at St. Helen’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be prior to services starting at 10 a.m. at Cox Gifford Funeral Chapel.
