First Baptist Church’s “Messiah” going online Dec. 20

Dr. Michael Carter, Minister of Music and Worship at the First Baptist Church of Vero Beach has announced that there will be an online performance of Handel’s “Messiah” on Dec. 20 at 3 p.m.

“This wonderful oratorio, depicting the life of Christ, has been produced by our church for 50 years as an annual Christmas gift to the Treasure Coast community. This year, due to the pandemic, we cannot bring together our usual soloists and orchestra and we cannot welcome an audience. The members of the choir, however, will be gathering in the church sanctuary to sing all of the inspirational choruses in Part 1 including the acclaimed “Hallulah Chorus” which will be live-streamed on the church’s website. Since there can be no audience in the building, we invite our listening friends to tune into the performance at www.fbcvero.org.”

“Messiah” will be accompanied on the organ by Dr. Ray Adams and directed by Dr. Michael Carter. All singers from previous years have been invited to join this event. Anyone interested in singing live should call the Church office at 772-567-4341 and bring their own copy of the music, arriving at First Baptist before 2:30 p.m. on December 20. Dress is casual without chair robes and singers must be masked and socially distanced.

The single performance will be held at the First Baptist Church, 2206 16th Avenue, Vero Beach, on Sunday, December 20 beginning at 3 p.m. The church’s website is www.fbcvero.org
