‘Weed Warriors’ at Laura’s House

Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation Board members and volunteers are working hard as “Weed Warriors” in the all-native Florida garden at the historic house in its new location on Mueller Campus at Indian River State College in Vero Beach. The community is invited to learn more about volunteering with Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation and supporting our new garden at the historic home of Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation.

Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation moved the historic home on a 12-mile journey during the summer of 2019 and has been preparing the House to resume public tours in order to provide education and to preserve and maintain the legacy of Laura (Riding) Jackson, an internationally acclaimed author/poet, and in the season of Covid 19 continuing. The Laura (Riding) Jackson house depicts Old Florida and lifestyles in the early 1900’s.

If you are interested in volunteering every other Tuesday as a “Weed Warrior” and helping us to label our all-native Florida plants and trees, please visit us at www.lrjf.org and sign up as a volunteer with us! The garden is now a serene and tranquil place for our community and will be allowing for small groups to rent the garden and pole barn as a donation towards LRJF. Information will be posted on website regarding the public usage of our pole barn and gardens.

LRJF mission is to preserve the historic home of poet and critic Laura (Riding) Jackson. LRJF not only maintains the author’s home but seeks to honor her legacy by creating a center to advance the literary arts in Vero Beach.

LRJ Foundation Writing Center at 1914 14th Avenue provides a gathering place for writers by offering teen and adult writers workshops, programs like Teens Listen, ongoing weekly writers groups and community wide events such as an annual Poetry BBQ and monthly “Celebrate a Local Author” during Friday Art Stroll.
